How We Can Help

Solar Canopies – Modelling and assessment service for your project

A common net zero project for car park sites is the installation of solar canopies. We can help you to understand the potential of your car park for solar photovoltaic (PV) generation and assess your options. We use our own solar calculation tools to undertake modelling. The tools calculate the potential size of the solar array and generation capacity, and provide guidance on the projected capital and revenue costs, and on the possible financial delivery models. If you need help, please get in touch.

Solar PV, plus EV Chargepoints, plus Battery Storage – New modelling and assessment tools

We are in the process of enhancing the tools we use to assess the potential of net zero projects for car parks. We are developing a model for car park sites that can undertake assessments for solar canopies in combination with EV charge points and with battery storage. If this is of interest to you, please contact the Greater South East Net Zero Hub.

Car Park Decarbonisation Challenges and Solutions

Sometimes an organisation has a net zero requirement that common technology cannot meet. In response to this situation Innovate UK KTN has developed an Innovation Exchange process, which matches an organisation’s needs and challenges to companies with relevant innovative solutions. Greater South East Net Zero Hub has recently worked with Innovate UK KTN to create two distinct Innovation Exchange challenges for car-parking sites owned by local authorities. Although these have been tailored around the specific requirements of the local authorities concerned, the resulting solutions may be suitable for other organisations. Scroll down for more information on these challenges.

What is the Innovation Exchange process?

Innovation Exchange Challenge: Secure and Accessible EV Carports for Multi Storey Car Parks - West Northamptonshire Council

A project to adapt multi-storey car parks in Northamptonshire to be able to generate and distribute energy to electric vehicles. The challenge is to design and implement physical hardware solutions that can integrate with the existing infrastructure, provide energy generation that can be distributed to electric vehicle chargers, and ensure that a secure environment is maintained, and that the capacity provided by the existing car parking spaces is conserved.

Innovation Exchange Challenge: Using Car Parks to create Sustainable Energy - Surrey Heath Borough Council

The challenge is to adapt multi-storey car parks in Camberley to enable energy generation and/or storage on site, with the energy being used within the locality for electric vehicle charging or for use by local business or facilities.

Looking for a solution? Get in touch with the Hub

We want to hear from local authorities and other public sector organisations with car park sites, whether surface or multi-storey, that might benefit from the Innovation Exchange challenges or which are looking for similar solutions. We are also open to hearing from parking organisations, as well as railway stations, airports and other transport interchanges, that could benefit from the Innovation Exchange process.

The Innovation Exchange process would be provided to public sector organisations free of charge. There is no commitment required from participating organisations to any solution that might arise. The Hub can also provide support and advice to help identify funding for any project that might be developed. Please contact us if this is of interest info@gsenetzerohub.org.uk.
