The Plan is backed by up to £1 billion to support local and community energy projects so communities can own and control their own energy, cutting bills and creating real local benefits.
The Greater South East Net Zero Hub (GSENZH) has already played an integral role in the growth and development of community energy, working with GBE to distribute previous grant funding to support projects across the local area.
With this funding, and previous programmes by GBE, projects across the East and South East of England will be delivered, helping to cut local energy bills and generate revenues for community facilities.
Maxine Narburgh, Regional Director at GSENZH, said: “The Local Power Plan is fantastic news for the community energy sector. Across our region, community energy groups are transforming their local areas and buildings to adopt clean energy benefitting many people.
“We have been delighted to work with so many organisations leading the way. From projects that sell energy to raise funds for the benefit of local communities to innovations that reduce energy bills. It is great to see the additional funding being channelled into a sector with so much passion, dedication and ability to make a difference.”
“As always, the Greater South East Net Zero Hub will be on hand to provide support.”
